Greetings Swillers! I be Bo.
What kind of guy is this self-proclaimed Vice Commodore: Bo Zaza?

Spyke provides the twinkle in one eye, and single-malt scotch provides the twinkle in the other.

Bo Zaza, Vice Commodore of Happy Hour and his pal, Spyke

Born in Des Moine, Iowa, and raised in Rockford, Illinois. I joined the US Coast Guard in 1969 and spent time in Governor's Island in New York, then Port Clarence, Alaska, and finally Carolina Beach, North Carolina, before I was discharged. I moved back to Illinois, married the girl next door, and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale - "Party Capital of the World" (according to a 1969 issue of Playboy).

After serious studying and the judicious application of copious amounts of chemicals, some legal, I graduated with two sons, a wife, and a degree in English. I taught English 101 for a couple years during graduate school. It was fun, but the money was running out. So, when my GI Bill expired, I fled back to Rockford to find work.

The bar scene in Illinois was limited, but we made up for it with the company we kept. We met every Friday at a bowling alley bar in Cherry Valley, called the Cherry Bowl, and comiserated among our comerades and coshirkers.

After a few years in Rockford, my career moved me to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in December of 1981. By 1985, I was divorced and raising the boys by myself.

I now share my life with a woman I met when I was married, Sharon - also known as Spyke. Sharon hung around with my ex-wife. While on a Happy Hour Ski Trip in 1988, Sharon and I remet and have been happy together ever since. My sons have long since grown and left the nest. Now they have sons of their own.

When I moved to Fort Lauderdale, I soon discovered over 1500 bars within a 30-minute drive. A real sot's heaven! So I began to explore and visit these various places. My effort became the basis for this weekly event we call Happy Hour.

Spyke and I moved from South Florida on July 2, 2005, to a country home in North Central Florida (just east of Gainesville) and have started a Happy Hour branch here to augment the global quest to create a world without rules. We like to get together with our friends and have a little fun. HH makes it easier to do just that. If you can, visit us at Happy Hour sometime. Thanks for stopping by.

Bo Zaza, Vice Commodore
